The Deathday Party is the eighth chapter of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Events[]
After training for Quidditch, Harry has muddy shoes which are falling on the floor in Hogwarts Castle while he is speaking to Nearly Headless Nick. Nick is upset he can't join the Headless Hunt. The caretaker, Filch notices the mud and decides to punish Harry. He takes him to his office to give him a detention slip. To help Harry, Nick causes a distraction by dropping a Vanishing cabinet nearby. Filch leaves Harry to sort it out.
Harry finds a confusing document in the office about a Kwikspell course which make it appear that Filch isn't very good at magic. Filch realises Harry has a clue that is a Squib so in embarrassment, he lets Harry go without detention. Harry is grateful to Nick for helping him so he agrees to attend his Deathday Party.
On the day of the Deathday Party, Harry wishes he hadn't agreed to go. Ron and Hermione join him but the party is dreary. Hermione wants to avoid speaking to Myrtle but fails and is stuck talking to her. They eventually leave the party but Harry hears a strange voice whispering about killing in the corridor. He follows it and finds Mrs Norris strung up Petrified with writing nearby on the wall: THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS HAS BEEN OPENED. ENEMIES OF THE HEIR BEWARE". A huge crowd of students and teachers appear and find Harry by the cat. Draco shouts "Enemies of the Heir beware? You'll be next, Mudbloods!".
