The Duelling Club is the eleventh chapter of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Events[]
Harry tells Ron and Hermione about Dobby. They consider that Lucius opened the Chamber of Secrets the first time and he has now passed it on to Draco. That day, Professor McGonagall takes the name of every student wanting to stay at school for the holidays. Upon hewring Draco is going to stay, Harry, Ron and Hermione also decide to sign up.
Now that the Polyjuice Potion is nearly done, Hermione hatches a plan to steal the final two ingredients she needs which are kept in Professor Snape's personal storage. Harry causes a scene in Potions so Hermione could sneak in. She is successful and puts the ingredients into the cauldron.
Professor Lockhart announces he is setting up a Duelling Club. Harry, Ron and Hermione sign up for it. Lockhart continues to show how incompetent he is during a special duel he is staging against Professor Snape. They put the students into pairings. Harry is put with Draco but he starts using unfriendly spells instead of the one they are supposed to. Harry and Draco are chosen to duel in front of the club. Draco conjures a snake which slithers towards Justin Finch-Fletchley. Harry unknowingly speaks Parseltongue to tell the snake to stop.
Parseltongue is related to the Dark Arts. The others are shocked Harry is able to speak it. Unfortunately it looks like Harry is encouraging the snake to attack Justin. He is now the number one suspect of being the Heir of Slytherin. Hermione tells Harry because Salazar Slytherin lived a very long time ago, he could actually be his descendant.
Later when a Herbology lesson is cancelled, Harry tries to find Justin and apologise. He wants to explain what happened but Ernie tells him how Justin is in hiding for his safety. He bumps into Hagrid who tells Harry someone is killing roosters. However, minutes later, Harry discoverd a Petrified Justin and Nearly Headless Nick in a corridor. Ernie caught Harry there and says he is now caught red-handed. Professor McGonagall takes Harry to Professor Dumbledore's office.
