The Knight Bus is the third chapter of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Events[]
After walking several streets carrying his trunk, Harry stops to rest at Magnolia Crescent. He begins to panic, realising he has nowhere to go and expects to be arrested at any moment. He considers using magic to get to London, but his thoughts are interrupted by large, hulking figure in the thin alleyway behind him. Frightened, he steps back and trips over his trunk. In an attempt to break his fall, he sticks out his wand hand and accidently summons the Knight Bus. Harry meets Stan Shunpike, the conductor, and Ernie Prang, the driver. Harry pays thirteen sickles to get hot chocolate and go to London. En route, Stan reads a copy of the Daily Prophet and Harry recognises the face of Sirius Black on the front page. Stan explains that Sirius was a supporter of Voldemort and that, on the night of Voldemort's defeat killed a dozen Muggles on a street, but when the Ministry of Magic caught up with him, he went in quietly. Sirius was sent to Azkaban and was there for 12 years until just recently, when he became the first person to ever escape the prison. Stan says that he doesn't think Sirius has a chance against the guards, but Ernie finds the discussion too uncomfortable and asks Stan to change the subject.
When Harry is the only passenger left, the bus reaches London and Harry asks to be dropped off at Diagon Alley. They stop in front of the Leaky Cauldron where Harry is immediately greeted by Cornelius Fudge. Fudge brings Harry inside and assures him that he won't be punished for using magic on Marjorie Dursley because "circumstances change". Fudge then tells Harry he should stay at the inn for the rest of the summer, but not to go wandering into Muggle London.
