The Whomping Willow is the fifth chapter of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Events[]
Harry has the best summer he has ever had at The Burrow. Mr Weasley kept wanting to be seated next to Harry at dinner to ask him about the Muggle world, and Mrs Weasley keeps trying to feed him because he is skinny.
It was soon time to go back to Higwarts in September. Harry and the Weasley family have to be at the train station before 11am but they keep having to go back to The Burrow because Fred and Ginny have forgotten things. By the time they get to King's Cross, it is nearly time for the train to leave.
Harry and Ron are the final two to go through the barrier but Dobby has blocked the entrance and causes them to miss the train. They decide the best way to get to school is to take the flying Ford Anglia but upon takeoff, the Invisibility Booster doesn't work and several Muggles watch the flying car.
Harry and Ron trace the train track for hours but the fun of flying fades and it begins to get very long and tedious. They eventually get to the school but the engine fails and they fall into the Whomping Willow. The car takes a beating and Ron's wand breaks, but the car suddenly springs back to life and escapes. Upon landing, the car throws Harry, Ron and their possessions out and drives into the Forbidden Forest.
Harry and Ron go into the school and briefly look through the doors into the Great Hall before Professor Snape appears. He shouts at Harry and Ron for breaking several school rules and wizarding laws, including the International Statute of Secrecy and says he will have them expelled them if he can. Professor Dumbledore lets Professor McGonagall decide their punishment. She tells them they will serve a detention.
Unable to attend the Start-of-Term Feast, Harry and Ron eat in a office but when they get to their House common room, a crowd cheers when they enter. Hermione looks furious but even though Harry knows he is in the wrong, he has to smile at their admiration.
