The Worst Birthday is the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Events[]
Harry is having a very long and tedious summer at 4 Privet Drive. The Dursley family are scared of magic and Vernon has locked Harry's possessions, including his wand and school books, in the Cupboard under the Stairs. He misses Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry but Ron and Hermione haven't even written to him the whole summer.
Today is Harry's birthday but an argument breaks out because Vernon is fed up of hearing Hedwig screeching every evening. Harry brings up the word "magic" causing Vernon to shout at Harry. The Dursley family don't even bring up Harry's birthday which appears to have been forgotten because Vernon has an important business dinner that evening.
Harry goes into the garden so his aunt Petunia has space to clean the house, and he is staring into a hedge when he realises two, huge green eyes arestaring back at him. Dudley interrupts to tease him about his lack of birthday celebrations. Harry pretends to perform a spell to scare Dudley but he trlls Petunia who uses a frying pan to hit Harry. Petunia later gives Harry dinner and then he has to go upstairs to pretend he doesn't even exist during Vernon's dinner. Harry goes upstairs but when he opens the door, he finds someone else on the bed.
