The third-floor corridor is a passage in Hogwarts Castle. It is also called the forbidden corridor when Fluffy was stationed there protecting the entrance to the underground chambers, where the Philosopher's Stone was kept.
About[]
The corridor is adjacent to these corridors and rooms which are also on the third floor:
An unknown third floor corridor has a statue of a one-eyed witch which leads to a secret passageway under the school to Honeydukes in Hogsmeade.[2]
History[]
Professor Dumbledore put the Philosopher's Stone to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to keep it safe. It was put in the underground chambers that are accessed through a trapdoor in a corridor of the third-floor.[3] He used Fluffy to guard the trapdoor. The corridor was entered through a door that was locked. It could be unlocked using the Unlocking Charm.[1] He told students at the Start-of-Term Feast that the corridor was forbidden to enter unless they wished to die a painful death.[4]
Two years later, the third-floor was searched when Sirius Black destroyed the portrait of the Fat Lady.[5] In December, Harry wanted to use a hidden passageway behind the statue of the one-eyed witch to go to Hogsmeade. He found it using the Marauder's Map. He had to tap it and use the password "Dissendium" to open the entrance.[6]
