Through the Trapdoor was the sixteenth chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
Events[]
Harry realises that Hagrid's story of how he got a dragon egg is a strange coincidence. He asks Hagrid about the random stranger who gave it to him and he says he never saw the person's face but they asked about Fluffy and Hagrid let it slip how to get past the dog. Harry, Ron and Hermione run to tell Professor Dumbledore but Professor McGonagall tells them that he is away from Hogwarts for the day.
They warn her that they know someone going to steal the Philosopher's Stone but she is shocked that they even know about Fluffy, and tells them that it is impossible for anyone to steal the stone. They hatch a plan to get to the stone first on their own instead. They sneak out their common room that evening but Neville tries to stop them. Hermione uses the Full Body-Bind Curse to subdue him.
They reach to Fluffy but he is already sleeping. They go after the thief through the trapdoor and land in a Devil's Snare. Hermione panics because she can't remember how to get out but Ron encourages her and she uses Bluebell Flames to escape. In the next room they encounter a bunch of flying keys and broomsticks. Harry catches the silver key with a broken wing and uses it to unlock the next door.
They then face a giant chessboard and play Wizard Chess. Ron leads the game and even though they win, he has sacrifice himself in the process. Harry and Hermione go to the next obstacle together, but the troll that has been placed in it has already been knocked out. The next room has seven potions and a riddle that three of the contents will kill, two just have nettle wine in them, one can only help the drinker go back, and other will let the drinker carry on going forward.
Harry takes the potion that will enable him to go forward, and Hermione takes the potion to go back and returns to Ron. Harry goes through door with purple flames and he is shocked to discover who the thief is waiting on the other side.
