"Undetectable Extension Charm ... Tricky, but I think I've done it okay; anyway, I managed to fit everything we need in here."

The Undetectable Extension Charm is a spell capable of extending the internal dimensions of the target object but keeping the external dimensions intact. It appears throughout the Harry Potter book series.

History[]

""Not a word to Molly", he whispered to Harry as he opened the trunk and showed him how it had been magically expanded so that the luggage fitted easily."
— Arthur and Harry in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Arthur Weasley illegally used this spell to expand the space of his car, a Ford Anglia. With the expansion, the small car could fit eight people, six trunks and three pets. On their drive to King's Cross Station, Molly Weasley did not notice it had an Expansion Charm and thought that Muggles were capable of more things than wizards thought they were.[1]

During the 422nd Quidditch World Cup, Arthur's two tents for the campsite also had Expansion Charms put on them. The first was like a three-room flat and had a bathroom and kitchen with an oven. The room could also fit chairs and four bunk beds. The second was slightly smaller.[2]
