Vault 713 is a high-level security vault in Gringotts. It appears in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Albus Dumbledore put the Philosopher's Stone in here for storage. Rubeus Hagrid later collected the Stone to take to Hogwarts Castle, ensuring Voldemort didn't get it when he broke in.
History[]
Albus Dumbledore put the Philosopher's Stone in the vault prior to the end of July in 1991. He was given it from Nicolas Flamel to keep it safe from Voldemort who Dumbledore thought was going to take the Philosopher's Stone. He increased the security at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry[1] and sent Rubeus Hagrid to collect the Philosopher's Stone the same day he took Harry Potter shopping for school supplies.[2]
The goblin who worked at Gringotts had to take them a relatively deep to the vault, and then run it's fingers across the length of the door for it to melt away.[2] Later that day, Quirinus Quirrell and Voldemort attempted to break in but they were too late. An investigation launched found that it was probably a Dark witch or wizard, perhaps even at least two of them, but they stated that nothing was taken and a goblin spokesperson stated that he was not going to tell anyone what was in it, and they that they should not keep asking.[3]
If anyone attempted to get in and they had no permission, they could be sucked into the door and trapped in the vault. Griphook once laughed when he told Harry that they only check the doors every ten years.[2]
