A winged key is an enchanted flying key in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Professor Flitwick uses them to protect the Philosopher's Stone in the second of the underground chambers. They scatter chaotically when anyone tries to get one.
History[]
In the summer of 1991, Professor Filius Flitwick had to set up one of the underground chambers to guard the Philosopher's Stone. He received the second chamber which he put flying, enchanted keys in. To get into the next chamber, a person would have to use a broomstick to get the correct key for the door. They were hundreds of keys, but they had to find the silver key that had blue wings. The second they got on the broomstick, the keys scattered. Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger worked out the correct key because Professor Quirrell had used it and damaged it. Harry caught it using a broomstick and they continued to the next room.[1]
Trivia[]
- It's unknown what enchantment was put on the keys but it could be the Flying Charm.[2]
